The Ritz opened in 1926, making it one of the oldest theaters in Kansas. Although it had closed down for several years, it was renovated and reopened in 2018 showing the first flick since 1956. Seating up to 200, the last showing was only a couple of years ago. Within the walls the laughter and memories are felt as well as aroma of popcorn, nachos and candy. The chandelier extends and retracts, big screen and movie equipment have also been updated. This theater offers its very own vibe different from the current movie theater. Space could also be utilized for church events, special occasions, weddings, showers etc. In 2014 it became listed on the National and States Registers of Historic Places. Baxter Springs KS is known for Route 66, with an abundance of history throughout the town, great places to sit down to grab some food, adventure outside to explore nature while fishing on Spring River or visit the Route 66 Visitors Center, venture on to the Field of Dreams and then stop on Rainbow Bridge hotspot for that iconic pic.
